UNICHIP ENHANCES THE VAG 2.0-LITRE TDI 140 ENGINE

Unichip Europe’s latest U-Connect plug and play Uni-Q ECU fitment now offers owners of Volkswagen 2.0-litre TDi (140) powered cars a significant performance upgrade at an affordable price. This covers the core popular VW models including the Golf, Jetta, Passat and Touran.

Supplied preprogrammed with revised ECU settings designed to improve the performance of the 2.0-litre, 16-valve, turbodiesel powerplant, the Uni-Q piggy back ECU is designed as a DIY fitment via its plug and play ‘U-Connect’ wiring loom, allowing for easy fitment (or removal) in minutes.

Unlike many OBD ‘flash’ remaps the Uni-Q leaves no electronic footprint. It is ‘invisible’ to VW main dealers and cannot be detected or overwritten during servicing. To ensure it is totally tamperproof, the Unichip can only be remapped by one of Unichip Europe’s 35 UK dealers. If, at a future stage, owners add mechanical modifications, the Uni-Q can be remapped to suit, or at a later stage, the unit can be removed from the vehicle and sold on, unlike an OBD reflash.

The performance gains produced by the Uni-Q are immediately noticeable on the VW 2.0-litre TDi powerplant. – peak power increases 19 bhp to a maximum of 163 bhp at 3300 rpm and a torque gain of 24 lb.ft is recorded.

Behind the wheel, this translates into a more fulfilling drive for VW 2.0-litre TDi 140 owners, as their car will feel sharper, livelier and more willing than before. Crucially, this additional performance doesn’t come at the expense of the 2.0-litre TDi 140 engine’s famed fuel economy. Tests have proven that thanks to a combination of the increased low speed torque and efficiencies realised by the refined Unichip Uni-Q ECU map, fuel economy is unaffected by the Unichip U-Connect package.

11th October 2010 U-Connect performance ECU launched for 2.5 – litre DCi Nissan Navara

The Spanish built Nissan Navara has been a popular sight on UK roads since its launch in 2005 as a load lugger and rugged workhorse. And while the Navara’s 171 bhp, four cylinder 2.5-litre DCi powerplant provides the Nissan pick up with reasonable levels of urge, Unichip Europe’s latest U-Connect plug and play Uni-Q ECU fitment offers a significant performance upgrade at an affordable price.

The result of extensive road and dyno testing, the Uni-Q ECU is designed as a DIY fitment via its plug and play ‘U-Connect’ wiring loom, allowing fitment (and removal) in minutes. It leaves no electronic footprint and is ‘invisible’ to Nissan main dealers during servicing. To ensure it is totally tamperproof, the ‘U-Connect’ unit can only be remapped by one of Unichip Europe’s 35 UK dealers.

Hugely popular in the UK and Europe thanks to it’s on road driving prowess and four wheel drive capabilities, Unichip Europe is delighted to announce the launch of a ‘U-Connect’ plug and play performance ECU upgrade for the 2.2-litre Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4.

Months of careful dyno and road testing has enabled Unichip Europe’s technicians to use the powerful and versatile Uni-Q piggyback ECU to fine tune the fuelling and turbo boost settings on the 2179cc, four cylinder, common rail Land Rover TD4 powerplant to deliver noticeable performance improvements.

Unichip Europe is delighted to announce the launch of a new performance-enhancing plug and play ‘U-Connect’ piggy back Unichip upgrade for the BMW 163 and 177 bhp, 1995cc, four cylinder direct injection engines used in the 120, 320 and 520d models from 2003 onwards.

Consisting of a specially premapped version of the renowned piggy back ECU, the Unichip makes subtle electronic tweaks to the BMW’s fuelling and boost settings to improve all round performance, without compromising economy or reliability.

Designed as a DIY fitment via its plug and play ‘U-Connect’ wiring loom, the Unichip is fitted (and removed) in minutes. Rolling road testing has proven that a ‘Unichipped’ BMW 520d gains an impressive 19bhp and 40lb.ft of torque over the standard car, producing a measured total of 188bhp, allied to a mighty 252lb.ft of torque at just 3400rpm. Similar performance gains can be expected from the 120d and 320d models.

It’s long been the farmer’s favourite, but the venerable Land Rover Discovery Series 2 TD5’s rugged nature and off road capabilities have ensured the model’s enduring popularity with the motoring public. However, even in acclaimed TD5 format, few could ever label the 135 bhp, Series 2 model as ‘potent,’ especially when overtaking or towing with heavy loads.

Hence why Unichip Europe is delighted to announce a new ‘Sport Conversion’ upgrade package for the 2.5 litre, five cylinder TD5 Discovery, designed to transform both the car’s on road acceleration and off road performance. Central to the conversion is a brand new, advanced specification Owen Developments Garrett turbocharger, allied to a specially mapped Unichip ‘U-Connect’ supplementary engine management system.

Designed as a like for like swap with the original TD5 turbocharger, the totally brand new Owen Developments Garrett unit features considerably higher flowing compressor and exhaust turbine housings, enabling the 2.5-litre, five cylinder engine to produce significant power and torque increases without mechanical strain or turbo lag.

The other crucial component in the package is a ‘U-Connect’ plug and play Unichip ECU, designed and developed specifically for the TD5. This unit comes pre-mapped by Unichip Europe with adjustments to fuelling and turbo boost levels to maximise performance throughout the rev range. Fitted in minutes, courtesy of its specially developed wiring loom, the Unichip’s ECU map is the end result of months of dyno and road testing, towing and off road assessment to ensure optimised settings and reliability.

Dyno testing has shown that Unichip Europe’s Land Rover Discovery TD5 Sport tuning package produces a dramatic performance improvement right throughout the rev range. Brake horsepower increases from a tested 127 bhp at 3776 rpm as standard, to 176 bhp at 4000 rpm, representing a peak gain of 49 bhp over the standard car, making the Discovery feel considerably more sprightly and willing at high revs.

And this extra power output has not come at the expense of torque, because the Unichip Europe tuned Land Rover Discovery manages to produce more torque than the standard car at every point in the rev range. Peak torque increases from 217 lb.ft at 2919 rpm to 279 lb.ft at 2957 rpm, equating to a 63 lb.ft gain.

But peak numbers are only half the story, because such is the effectiveness of the conversion that from 1700-4200rpm over 200 lb.ft of torque is always available, making the package perfect for towing or off road use where low rev grunt is at a premium. It also transforms the in-gear acceleration and flexibility of the Land Rover Discovery TD5, enabling swifter, safer overtaking and a much more dynamic driving experience.

This has been proven by in-gear acceleration times figured during road testing, as it shows that the upgrade shaves nearly 4 seconds from the Discovery’s 3rd gear 30-50mph acceleration time.

Crucially, at a time of soaring fuel costs and despite the considerable performance hike, extensive road testing on the Unichip Europe Land Rover Discovery Sport conversion for the TD5 indicates no fuel consumption penalty. Overall fuel economy actually improves marginally, thanks to the extra mechanical and electronic efficiencies realised by the Unichip Europe conversion.

24th MAY 2010: UNICHIP BOOSTS THE TOYOTA HILUX 3.0-LITRE D4D

Versatile, reliable and deemed to be ‘indestructible’ by BBC’s Top Gear, the 3.0-litre D4D 4x4 Hilux is a justifiably popular sight on British roads. However, few would argue that with a pedestrian 0-60mph time of 12 seconds and a 105 mph top speed, the 1830 kilo Toyota could benefit from a power boost, but the problem, until now, is that the Hilux has been viewed as ‘unmappable,’ using traditional OBD based methods.

Happily, electronics expert Unichip Europe has now launched a new Uni-Q upgrade for the Toyota, designed to put a spring into the Hilux’s step. Manufactured in South Africa, the Uni-Q is the world’s leading piggyback ECU, enabling tuners to refine and increase performance of any petrol or diesel vehicle.

MAY 9th 2010: Performance boosting plug and play Unichip ECU now available for Nissan 350Z

Unichip Europe is pleased to unveil a new plug and play ‘U-connect’ Unichip piggy back ECU for the Nissan 350Z. The Nissan coupe is a popular choice for tuning enthusiasts and the Unichip Uni-Q provides the perfect engine management solution on a vehicle that cannot be remapped using OBD flash programming.

Supplied with a specially developed adapted wiring loom for a speedy ‘plug and play’ installation by a Unichip dealer, the Unichip Uni-Q piggy back ECU is packed with sophisticated features.

The Unichip Uni-Q works by intercepting the signals from the Nissan 350Z’s factory sensors, which are channelled through the Uni-Q, allowing the engine’s ignition and fuelling to be remapped to a high degree of control – and performance.

Extensive rolling road testing has proven that when installed and mapped by a Unichip dealer onto a standard Nissan 350Z power increases by 20 bhp, raising peak output from a measured 264 to a mighty 284 bhp.
